Awamochidokoro Sawaya - Known for their Awamochi and been in business since 1682
Awamochidokoro Sawaya 粟餅所・澤屋
A traditional sweets restaurant that is known for its Awamochi and also has hundreds of years of history (founded in 1682), and it is just located opposite Kitano Tenmangu Shrine, one of the tourist attractions in Kyoto.
Awamochi 3 Pieces (¥500)
We both ordered the 3 pieces set as to save as much space for our stomach for more food (and do more reviews for you guys), all is made to order, so they will take some time to arrive after you order.
It came with 2 Red Bean Paste Awamochi and 1 Awamochi coated with Kinako, it is still slightly warm when we bite into it.
Awamochi coated with Kinako: Very chewy and soft, and combo with the toasted-ish Kinako, sweet and nutty/earthy taste, and still fresh and warm. It does reminds me of our local Muah Chee, but a much refined one but with Kinako coating.
Red Bean Paste Awamochi: Very soft (even softer compared to the Awamochi coated with Kinako), about 1:1 ratio of red bean paste to awamochi. But less chewy compared to the Awamochi coated with Kinako due to how soft it is. Subtle red bean taste and warm milky smooth texture when bite into it.
Overall: Both are good though quite sweet for us, but the more refined/natural tasting ones. Definitely need to go with a cup of strong tea to balance it, thus it comes with a cup of it.

Overall
A place I will revisit whenever I go Kitano Tenmangu Shrine or in the vicinity, nice place to have a quick break and enjoy a nice traditional Japanese snack.
