Bokkee Ramen - Old school ramen restaurant feel in Okayama
Bokkee Ramen
We had a long day trip to Okayama (visited Korakuen, Okayama Castle, and Kojima Jeans Street), so we want somewhere relatively near to the JR station for a quick dinner and then it’s back to Osaka via the Shinkansen.
Based on my shortlisted ramen restaurants there are Bokkee Ramen and Yamafuji Ramen, we chose Bokkee Ramen cause it looks meatier and we need all the meat after a long day of walking.
Bokkee Ramen (¥720)
Chashu, spring onions, beansprouts, bamboo shoot, sesame seeds, and noodles made up this bowl of ramen.
Broth: I believe it is a tonkatsu based, rich, relatively thick and oily broth.
Chashu: Leaning towards the thinner side, and quality/cut of the meat is not that good, definitely not melt in your mouth tenderness and lacking flavour.
Noodle: Firm and thin noodles.
Overall: Although the broth is rich, thick and oily, it doesn’t have any deep complex flavour that usually comes with it or just doesn’t blend in harmoniously. In our opinion, nothing really stands out but overall it is passable. I feel this is an old school basic bowl of ramen and comes with a slightly unique take on the broth. Oh, there’s self-served all you eat kimchi on the side too!

Overall
While the ramen is just passable, they have the old school ramen restaurant feel, very lively and friendly atmosphere.
As we are seating at the counter seats in front of him, one instance is the master when draining the noodles with his quick actions on multiple noodle strainers, he is also shouting some phrases. But sadly we don’t understand Japanese, if not it will be interesting to know what he is saying.
