Hakata Issou - Passable but overhyped tonkotsu ramen
Hakata Issou (Main Store) 博多一双 博多駅東本店
One of the most raved ramen restaurants in Hakata, and probably the most popular around Hakata Station area. Furthermore, tonkotsu ramen originates from Hakata, so we are very excited to try it from the originating city!
Ajitama Chashu Ramen (¥900)
Let’s dive straight into the review!
Broth: It is creamy…and that’s all? It has a one-dimensional taste and rather bland at it too; no richness, no umami, and no (good) porky saltiness too.
Both of us are pretty underwhelmed by it since it was so hyped by online reviews. Not sure is it an off-day for them, or it is truly overrated.
Chashu: Chashu is of a thin and short cut with an estimated ratio of 1/3 and 2/3 of fat and meat respectively. Chashu is rather normal, nothing really stand out.
Seasoned Egg: Has a nice and good ratio of golden runny yolk.
Noodle: Round shape and thin.
Overall: It is passable and in no way a bad bowl of ramen, and a decent choice for late-night ramen cravings (since they close at midnight) if you are staying around Hakata Station.
But to us, we disagree that they are one of the best tonkotsu ramen as per many online reviews.

Gyoza - 10 pieces (¥400)
We also ordered a side dish of Gyoza to share, it was of decent quality.
Texture: Crispy outer skin and moist inside (meat and vegetables).
Taste: Sweet and salty.
Rating: 3/5
