A popular roll cake speciality shop in Yufuin, where their roll cake sells out regularly by afternoon or even earlier.

So…does the taste lives up to its hype?

Disclaimer: We ate this at night when we are back in our hotel room in Fukuoka, which is about 5 hours after we collect the roll cake at the shop. We did purchase the cooler bag that also comes with dry ice packets so to keep it as fresh as possible during the commute back to Fukuoka.

Now to what we think of the P-roll, firstly the packaging is done right, even after all our train commute and walking, it is still secure and in nice shape still after unboxing.

Ingredients that we can taste: flour, egg, cream, and sugar.

Taste: Sweetness* is just right, the cream is fresh and rich.

Texture: Fluffy, soft, and moist. But it could be even softer/lighter if eat fresh on the spot.

Overall: It is a good roll cake no doubt about it. But it is not mind-blowingly good kind of standard.

Something to note, if you are a solo traveller you might not have the stomach capacity to eat the entire roll cake by yourself, and from what I hear the sliced piece (¥540) gets sold out quickly after store opening.

For data point, when we reach at 11.50am the sliced piece was already sold out.

Rating: 3.5/5

*Sweetness is of course still too sweet for me, as I don’t have much tolerance for sweetness. But I will benchmark the sweetness for an average person.
