This place is an absolute gem! To be honest it wasn’t a planned choice to come here, but I’m glad that I did so after searching for food recommendations around this area.

Context was because I was looking for places to eat around the area (which I’m not familiar with), so I went searching for recommendations on Dr Leslie’s blog (really love his food blog, recommendations, and trust-able reviews) to see whether any restaurant or hawker stall pops up in this vicinity. And Mr Biryani pops up highly rated by him.

Hyderabad Chicken Dhum Biryani (S$9)

Fresh chicken marinated in ginger garlic paste, spices, mint, coriander, fried onion, yogurt, and cooked with fine Basmati rice.

Definitely the star dish of the restaurant (at least from the few dishes I tried)!

You can definitely smell the aroma when the lid was lifted, especially when you are seated indoors.

The rice is fragrant, light and fluffy, can also taste the subtle herbs and spices. The chicken (hidden under the rice in the photo) is tender and flavorful, very well balanced and infused from the marination and cooking with the basmati rice.

This is one Dhum Biryani I feel you can eat it as it is, and can also pair it with the yogurt as and when you felt like it for some cooling down or refreshing sourness to the equation.

Disclaimer: I have not tried the real thing in India, so can’t be sure how authentic it is. But for sure this taste darn great!

Mutton Masala (S$12)

Really like how tender and flavorful the meat is.

I feel it blended well in harmony with the spices and herbs, gaminess is also reduced (probably through the process?).

It also pack quite a heat even for one who likes spicy food. Eating the first few pieces is ok, but heat starts to kick in after that.

Personal tip: Do try the Dhum Biryani before this, if not you might not be able to taste the true flavor of the Dhum Biryani after eating the Mutton Masala.

Bhindi Fry (S$8)

Actually we wanted the crispy lady finger dish, but somehow communication got lost in transition and I got a secret menu dish (as told by the boss when I’m paying) instead.

Story was when the server brought out the dish, I asked him isn’t it should be crispy lady fingers? He told me he can change it for me, and also told me I should just try first and if I don’t like it afterwards he still can change it for me. That’s really service. But wife and I are always open to new things, so we told him no worries we will take it anyways.

But I digress, it’s quite an unique dish that we don’t normally see in Singapore.

From what I can see and taste, the dish consists of stir fry lady fingers, roasted peanuts, onions, garlic, green chili, dried red chili, spices mix.

Overall, I can taste the freshness of lady finger infused with spices, and the crunchiness from the roasted peanuts make it quite an interesting combo.

I will still want to try the crispy lady finger dish on my next trip there then!

Awesome Hyderabad Chicken Dhum Biryani!

Although we only tried 2 dishes from our first visit, we will definitely be back for more Hyderabad Dhum Biryani and trying other items on the menu!

Personally I do like that the boss choose to import some of their ingredients directly from India (as per other reviews and video interviews I watched) to make the taste as close to the original.

It’s like how I missed authentic Vietnamese food, plus we can’t really get those Vietnamese herbs in Singapore and fresh. Just take for example the herbs (Vietnam Culantro and Basil) used to mix in with Pho, it definitely won’t taste the same without those in a bowl of Pho.

Still really pleasantly surprised that wife really likes the Dhum Biryani, this is the first Indian food/restaurant that she says that she really likes. FYI, she’s Vietnamese but lived in Singapore for a few years and tried Prata, Mee Goreng, Indian Rojak, Curries, local style Briyani, etc and she don’t really like those.

Update: To add on from our 2nd trip, the Dhum Biryani standard is quite consistent. Photos timeline is different as 1st trip is for dinner, and the 2nd trip is for lunch.
