Shake Shack - Jewel Changi Airport
Shake Shack
Finally tried Shake Shack in Singapore with a much more manageable queue time at about 10 minutes and also another 10 minutes waiting for the food. We visited during off-peak (4pm) on a Sunday weekend, which is a-ok in comparison to the insane launch hype (and queue).
Update: Went for the 2nd trip the following weekend to try 2 more items; Shack Stack and Shack Attack.
ShackBurger (S$9.20 Single, S$12.70 Double)
Cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce
Ahh the classic angus cheeseburger!
Very balance taste across the board, tender and juicy beef patty, combo with the melted cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, and ShackSauce.
A safe choice, good choice, and do try it!
Rating: 3.5/5
Just an add-on benchmark reference for our Singapore folks, I will rate McDonald’s Classic Angus Cheese (from their Signature Collection) at 2-3/5 depending on the quality/consistency of the branch/staff preparing the food.
SmokeShack (S$10.90 Single, S$14.40 Double)
Cheeseburger with all-natural Applewood smoked bacon, chopped cherry pepper, ShackSauce
The heavy hitter burger in the menu, just think of the ShackBurger without lettuce, but with the addition of Applewood smoked bacon and chopped cherry pepper.
You may think it looks like a minor change up, but I feel the addition of chopped cherry pepper really brings up the heat and kick to the burger. Like normally you have the chopped chili padi in soy sauce that comes with fishball noodles or ban mian. Same same but different taste, but kick is there.
It is an interesting combination and I never had burgers with such spicy kick till this. Those who can’t take spicy might want to stick with the other burgers or share this with friends who can take spicy.

Shack Stack (S$14.30)
Cheeseburger and a ‘Shroom Burger with lettuce, tomato, ShackSauce
Before I ate it I wasn’t expecting much from it, but just keeping an open mind.
But damn it exceeds my expectations! The angus beef, crisp fried portobello mushroom, and melted cheese combination is just amazing!
Just take the already good classic ShackBurger + the earthy taste and crunchy bite of the portobello mushroom, with the final twist of melted cheeses is just pure SHIOK! Bringing it up another level!

Shack-cago Dog (S$6.50)
Dragged through the garden with Rick’s Picks Shack relish, onion, cucumber, pickle, tomato, sport pepper, celery salt, mustard
The sauce and ingredients accompanying the star of the dish is decent; sour, sweet, plus a bit of saltiness to it, but that’s the only good thing about this dish.
Hands down the worst dish of the 3, it’s just nothing special and the hot dog feels and taste like a longer version of those frozen pack of 10 hot dogs that you can find in supermarket (ie. NTUC), especially the texture.
Definitely skip this if you are deciding between this or the burger, would not recommend it.
Rating: 2/5
Shack Attack (S$7.50 Single, S$9.50 Double)
Chocolate custard mixed with Plain Vanilla brownie, Shack fudge sauce, Lemuel chocolate chunks, and chocolate sprinkles
Decent dessert, not too sweet (but still too sweet for me as I don’t really eat sweet stuff), and can feel the bite and taste of brownie, chocolate chunks and sprinkles.
But I do feel you will get a bit jelak (sick of eating due to food is too rich) after a while, best to share it with friend(s), unless you have a sweet tooth.
Rating: 3/5
Overall
The 2 burgers we tried are good, and we still have many other items to try (ie. Shack Stack and ‘Shroom Burger, Shack Attack Concretes, and their Classic Hand-Spun Shakes) in our future visits.
But just based on these 2 burgers, it’s definitely a notch better than McDonalds’ Classic Angus Cheese (even on their best form), but is it worth the travel all the way down to Jewel Changi Airport to eat it will be your decision to make.
Update: Summary: Great burgers, decent dessert, and bad hot dog. Definitely go for the burgers and share the dessert with friend(s).
