Crab Soup with Century Egg (20k VND)

Tasty crab soup right in the center of Ho Chi Minh City (D1)!

The regular version without century egg (15k VND) consists of crab meat, shredded chicken, egg, shiitake mushroom, white fungus, coriander, and spring onion (if you want to experience the full authentic taste, do add in chili sauce too).

I ate the one with century egg for a slightly more creamy taste, the overall feeling is like a homely and sticky soup snack (texture is similar to Mee Sua).

As per my wife, how to recognise that it is a good quality Sup Cua:

  1. The soup texture shouldn’t be too sticky or too watery

  2. The ingredients should be given evenly for more harmonious balance of taste

You can find this anywhere and anytime in Vietnam as it’s a popular (and cheap) food for both a meal or as a snack, just that this stall is popular due to it’s location and of course good quality too (been around for more than 20 years).

I forgot to take photos of the stall location, but it’s in the middle of an alley, you should be able to spot a pushcart and mini stools for dining in. By the way there’s no table, so you have to hold the bowl and eat it.
