Japan 2019 Trip Day 9: Osaka Shinsekai, Tempozan Ferris Wheel, Glion Museum, and Cosmo Tower Observatory
[Introduction]
For Day 9 we explored around Shinsekai, Tempozan Ferris Wheel, Glion Museum, and Cosmo Tower Observatory. Most are in the same area (Tempozan, Glion Museum, Cosmo Tower Observatory), so it will be more efficient in terms of time spent on transport and point to point walking.
We wanted to go Kaiyukan initially but I think it was a holiday that day and the queue was snaking long, so we decided to change to Glion Museum (which is around the area) and come back for Kaiyukan on another day.

[Breakfast at PAINDUCE]
We bought 3 pieces to share for breakfast at PAINDUCE, as we are literally around the corner since we came to this area to get the timeslot ticket for our lunch later at BOTANI:CURRY (super pretty and good curry rice) which you will see later in this post.
TLDR; good bakery with lots of varieties.

[Shinsekai 新世界]
After buying our breakfast at PAINDUCE, we went to Shinsekai to experience the daytime version of the place, and also took photos with the iconic “Giant Pufferfish” and Tsutenkaku Tower.
Our original plan was to also tour the Tsutenkaku Tower as it is covered under Osaka Amazing Pass, which we bought the 2 days pass for exploring around and the attractions in Osaka.
But apparently it is not covered if that day falls on a holiday, so we just walked around Shinsekai a bit.
[Lunch at BOTANI:CURRY]
When it was close to our timeslot, we made our way back to BOTANI:CURRY via train.
FYI, BOTANI:CURRY don’t accept walk-ins or reservation, it is strictly by ticketed entrance.
TLDR; super pretty presentation and delicious plate of botanical curry rice.
Do click on the link for the detailed review and photos, also on the post I will tell you how to get the timeslot ticket for entry.
[Tempozan Ferris Wheel 天保山大観覧車]
I never expected it would be such an enjoyable Ferris Wheel experience, very relaxing and serene ride, just 2 of us in that car.
Probably helped by the weather as it was very good that day, clear blue skies and able to see so much of Osaka city whilst on the Ferris Wheel.
The windows/glass on the car itself was clean and clear, which make the viewing a good feeling.
This ride is covered under Osaka Amazing Pass.
[Glion Museum]
As mentioned earlier in this post, we initially wanted to go Kaiyukan today but changed to Glion Museum due to snaking long queues at Kaiyukan (as it was a holiday).
So we went to Glion Museum since it was around the area + it is also covered under Osaka Amazing Pass.
I’m not well versed nor an enthusiast in cars, but I will say car lovers or specifically vintage car lovers might enjoy this museum/showroom.
[Cosmo Tower Observatory コスモタワー展望台]
Next, we took the train for 1 stop (Osakako -> Cosmosquare Station) on the Chuo Line, and another 10 minutes walk from the train station to Cosmo Tower Observatory コスモタワー展望台.
The observatory is located on the 55th floor of this building, so you had to take the elevator to 52nd floor, and then a couple of escalators to reach 55th floor.
This observatory is also covered under Osaka Amazing Pass.
It was a relaxing change of pace (there are seats and couches placed around the observatory) and just in time to catch the golden hour transit to night time, which you can see from my photos below.
[Dinner at Kiji (Main Store)]
After a long day we travelled to Umeda area to have dinner at Kiji (Main Store), which is probably the best Okonomiyaki restaurant in Osaka.
TLDR; one of the best Modanyaki and Osaka style Okonomiyaki at an affordable rate too!
Do click on the link for the detailed review and photos.
[Closing]
Sad that we missed out Tsutenkaku Tower, but at least we went to Kaiyukan on another day. Overall this is a good day, we do enjoy the Ferris Wheel ride and the Cosmo Tower Observatory view, plus the yummy food for all of our meals today.
This concludes Day 9 of our trip, tomorrow we will be exploring Osaka Castle and Kuchu Teien Observatory.
