One of the popular machiya in Kurashiki, this inviting spot serves both meals and desserts, featuring nostalgic décor with a warm, relaxing atmosphere, predominantly in wood tones. They even have a stunning long communal table crafted from live-edge wood!

Miyake Curry Set - Weekdays Only (¥1650)

The set includes soup, pickles, mini dessert, and a drink of coffee, tea, or orange juice.

Curry: Is both slightly sweet and spicy, generally will suit most people taste. About 1 piece of each type of wild vegetables, sweet potato, brinjal, pork, chicken, etc. Rice I think is some kind of multigrain rice. Personally, we feel the ingredients are a bit too little.

Mini Dessert: It is a chiffon cake with fruits, and another mini panna cotta with raspberry jam. It’s decent, not bad but nothing outstanding.

Overall: Decent set meal in Kurashiki and relatively worth for money, but we would just come for the actual main parfait dessert if in Kurashiki (review below).

Chestnut Parfait - Seasonal (¥1650)

Here comes the star of the restaurant, their desserts.

Chestnut Parfait: First glance you will see a few big chunks of chestnut on the top, then ice cream and mini macaron, raspberry, blueberry, mint, pistachio, and caramel. The bottom half consists of pear, cassis jelly, crumble, tea and walnut jam.

It’s a whole load of ingredients compared to their curry rice, but I digress.

We feel there’s also rum mixed in this parfait combined with all these ingredients, one can feel a myriad of different textures and flavours. But overall, a nice balance of sweet and sour flavours, not too sweet and easy to eat.
