Sekai no Yamachan Main Store - One of the most popular restaurant for Tebasaki in Nagoya!
Sekai no Yamachan Main Store 世界の山ちゃん 本店
Tebasaki (手羽先) is one of the local specialties that Nagoya is well known for, most tourists (us included) would either know or heard a bit of it. Thus, how short our stay in Nagoya is, we just got to give it a try!
Maboroshino Tebasaki 5 Pieces - Standard Pepper (¥605)
Of course we have to order this dish, the OG Tebasaki with the standard amount of pepper.
First bite through, hot and crispy, with a nice amount pepper for taste (spice and saltiness).
As you can see from the photos, it has good colour on it and nicely fried, oil has been properly drain off before serving it, good!
We enjoyed this Nayoga local snack, really quite good for a mainstream food that can be found throughout Nagoya!
Overall: If you only have stomach to try 1 dish, just try this. If we are ever back in Nagoya and want a night snack, this snack will be our go to also.

Maboroshino Tebasaki 5 Pieces - More Pepper (¥605)
This is the OG Tebasaki but with MORE pepper sprinkle on it, we ordered it so we can also try to see how it is.
The cooking standard and all is the same as the standard pepper one, so I’m not going to reiterate again.
Only difference (from our knowledge), is just sprinkling more pepper over the wings.
We don’t actually like it, we find it mainly too salty with this amount of pepper, and slightly overbearing of pepper, then we can’t enjoy the balance of the meat, skin, pepper.
But I think it might suit well for people who are eating it and drinking beer, that will be a different combination. Beer drinkers you should know what I’m saying.

Hidenno Kurotebasaki 2 Pieces (¥374)
Not too sure what sauce is it coated with, but we believe it might be shoyu or/and some other sauce(s) and spice.
Not as crispy as the regular Tebasaki (probably due to it being coated with the sauce), but with the added elements of sweetness and soy/different kind of saltiness.
Meat wise inside also similar as the regular Tebasaki, tender and well cooked.
Rating: 3/5
Yamachan Croquette 2 Pieces (¥473)
Quite well fried, hot and crispy when arrived.
In the menu it mentions it uses Matsusaka beef, but probably very small portions of it, can’t really see much when I was eating it or in the photos.
Standard potato and meat inside the croquettes, decent but nothing to shout for.

Shima Hokke (¥825)
For the last dish we ordered the Shima Hokke, I think it looks burned on some portion (not sure it’s intended or not) so yeah…
Meat is a bit dry and also has a bit of fishy smell, overall just so-so, don’t feel worth to order.

Overall
TLDR; In our opinion, just get the Maboroshino Tebasaki - Standard Pepper to eat there or to go. Worth it to try one of Nagoya’s local specialities at least once.
