Ashes Burnnit - Good and affordable hawker burgers!
Ashes Burnnit
Highly rated hawker burger stall at Golden Mile Food Centre…and not going to lie, we went the next day after watching Food King to try Ashes Burnnit and Chef Choo Signature.
Ashes Smash Cheese Burger - Single Patty (S$5.9)
Hand crafted beef patty, American cheese, iceberg lettuce, signature sauce & fried shallots
The signature burger from Ashes Burnnit, so a definite must-try for our first time!
The patty is marinated well, juicy and moist, the bun is airy and fluffy, and each burger is freshly made to order.
The fries are exceptionally good, crispy, crunchy, and well seasoned. The quantity of the fries is also very generous, which we really appreciate. It reminds us of a thicker version of Long John Silver’s fries.
Rating: 3/5
Pulled Brisket Burger - Single (S$7.5)
36 hour braised Australian brisket, signature bbq sauce, nacho cheese & iceberg lettuce
We wanted to try more varieties, but we are only 2 person, so we could only order 1 more burger, so the pulled brisket it is!
The meat is tender and juicy with a hint of sweetness and spiciness probably from the sauce. Each burger as mentioned above are freshly made to order, the bun is the same as their signature burger.
We prefer this more than the signature burger, rather unique and not much places (especially burger stalls at hawker) does pull brisket burger.
Rating: 3.25/5
Pulled Brisket Burger - Double (S$10)
36 hour braised Australian brisket, signature bbq sauce, nacho cheese & iceberg lettuce
This is our 2nd visit, so decided to still order our favourite burger last round, but with double the meat this time round!
I will keep this short, it will be the same as the single, but double the yummy meat! Rating and tasting notes remain the same as the single.
The only thing we could nitpick is, it will get messy. As the amount of meat and sauce weighing and bun soaked on it, the brisket will definitely drop out from the bun when you are eating it.
Rating: 3.25/5
Fried Fish Burger - Single (S$7.5)
Alaskan pollock, american cheese, cheesy tartar sauce & coleslaw
Tried a new burger on our 2nd visit.
I will skip the part on the bun and fries, as both of these items are consistent throughout all the dishes and visits.
The batter for the fish is at the right amount, able to keep the fish moist inside and also had a sufficient amount of crunch when biting through it.
Currently we felt the sauce is a touch watery and on the bland side, definitely has space for improvement. We feel the sauce could be of a thicker texture and stronger taste (more creamy and flavourful).
We could taste more of the coleslaw than the sauce to be honest.
But with that said, it is still a nice fish burger, but the potential to be a much better one if the sauce could be improved.
Rating: 3/5
Truffle Mushroom Burger - Single (S$8)
Hand crafted beef patty, American cheese, saute mushrooms & truffle cream sauce
Tried a new burger on our 3rd visit.
The same beef patty from their Ashes Smashed Burger, so nothing changed in regards to it; well marinated, juicy and moist.
The main addition will be the saute mushrooms and truffle cream sauce.
Mushrooms are cooked just nice, can still feel the bite when you eat it.
The truffle cream sauce is rather creamy and has a slight tinge of sweetness, you can taste the aroma of truffle oil, but let’s not kid ourselves it won’t be using any real truffle at this price point.
We feel that if it could have added elements of herbs/seasonings to the sauce and a slightly thicker sauce it will be even better.
Overall, still a very decent burger and our 2nd favourite burger from them.
Rating: 3/5
Overall
Very good and affordable hawker burger hands down. You might find it weird why we rate it highly while giving only 3.25/5, because our rating is across all types of food/establishments from street food to omakase/Michelin starred restaurants, and we only do the grading purely on food quality.
FYI just for benchmark, anything we rate 3.5 (and above) is of great quality food that is worth your calories, travelling and queueing time.
But I digress, I can highly say that Ashes Burnnit’s burgers can beat most mainstream fast food burgers with the exception of Shake Shack. But value-wise Ashes Burnnit only costs around 40% of Shake Shack (if you count in the fries’ cost at Shake Shack).
